(23-02 Research Report) Four-year Trend Analytic Research on Koreans’ Happiness Survey (2020-2023)

This report examines the trends in overall happiness scores over the past four years. The data reveals that overall happiness score showed a reverse trend  after three-year persistent decline, from 6.83 (2020), 6.56 (2021), 6.46  (2022),  and  6.56  (2023).  The  trend  is  similar  in  other  happiness domains, including life evaluation and Eudemonia. The gap in happiness between  socio-economically  vulnerable  groups  and  others  seems  to  be continuously widening, suggesting an increase in happiness inequality. It is clear that further research and policy interventions are needed to enhance the average happiness of Koreans and narrow the happiness gap.
