The world continues to refine its economic security strategy and governance amid complex security environment changes such as competition between great powers, geopolitical crises, pandemics, and wars. While the U.S., Japan, and the EU all emphasize that economic security is national security, there are some differences in the direction and key content of their economic security strategies, reflecting their respective security and economic needs. In addition, the priority of economic security may differ depending on whether the focus is on the economy or security, and so does the structure of economic security governance.
Therefore, this study focuses on comparative analysis about the economics security strategy and economic security governance of United States, Japan, and the EU, which are so-called 'like-minded countries’ of ROK.This study compares and analyzes the characteristics and key content of their economic security strategies and the governance structure and operation of economic security, and draws implications for the direction of South Korea’s economic security strategy and economic security governance. In conclusion, this study proposes an economic security vision and strategy that reflects Korea’s complex economic security and an effective systematic economic security governance for implementing such vision and strategy.
