Speaker Jung Se-Kyun appointed Prof. Park Jin as the President of the NAFI
The Speaker of the National Assembly Jung Se-Kyun appointed Park Jin, a professor at the School of Public Policy and Management at the Korea Development Institute (KDI), as the first president of the NAFI. The motion for the appointment of the president of the NAFI, which was submitted last month, was approved by the House Steering Committee on May 21, and immediately, the Speaker Jung Se-Kyun awarded the appointment letter to president Park Jin and entrusted great responsibility for the successful operation of the NAFI. The NAFI is a research institute belonging to the National Assembly that predicts and analyzes changes in the future environment and derivers mid- to long-term national development strategies.
As the「National Assembly Futures Institute Act」was resolved at a plenary session of the National Assembly in November last year, it is expected to open on May 28.
Prof. Jin Park received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, and served as an Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Development Institute (KDI), Director of the Research Center for State Owned Entities at Korea Institute at the Korea Institute of Public Finance. Currently, he serves as a professor at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management.
At the appointment ceremony, the Speaker Jung asked, "I sincerely hope that the NAFI will start off on the right foot and play its role well into new areas." He also added, “I have confidence in the first president of the NAFI Park Jin and believe that he would do great to have NAFI work well independently.”
Along with the appointment of the president, the Speaker Jung also conferred an appointment letter to a professor of the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University Kim Jun-Gi (former Director of the National Assembly Budgetary Policy Office), who was appointed as an auditor of the NAFI.
The appointment ceremony, held in the office of the Speaker, were attended by the Secretary-General of the National Assembly Kim Sung-Gon, the Chief Secretary to the Speaker Hwang Yeol-Heon, the Director of a Library Huh Yong-Beom, Director of National Assembly Budgetary Policy Office Kim Chun-Soon, the Chief of the National Assembly Research Service Lee Nae-Young, the Deputy Secretary-General for Legislative Affairs Jin Jeong-Gu, the Deputy Secretary General Lee In-Yong and the Chief of the Planning and Coordination Office Jang Dae-Seop and others. <End>
