This is Kim Ki-sik,
President of the National Assembly Futures Institute.

The Republic of Korea,
recognized as one of the few postwar independent nations to have achieved both industrialization and democratization, is now facing significant structural crises both domestically and internationally.

In the era of de-globalization, where the U.S.-China hegemonic rivalry shows no sign of resolution, growing concerns are being raised over whether Korea’s economy and industries can continue to maintain the competitiveness of an advanced economy. At the same time, the deepening new Cold War dynamics surrounding the Korean Peninsula call for serious reflection on how we should respond politically and diplomatically.

In addition, the declining birth rate and resulting demographic changes are demanding fundamental innovations across all sectors of society, not just in the welfare system, departing from existing policy approaches.

As a research institute established by the National Assembly, the foundation of representative democracy and the institution that embodies the will of the people, the National Assembly Futures Institute seeks to address these structural national crises by thoroughly examining the path forward for the Republic of Korea and presenting the “National Future Vision Strategy”.

Furthermore, we aim to foster national, social, political, and bipartisan consensus through diverse channels of communication, thereby broadening public understanding and support.

The National Assembly Futures Institute will make every effort to communicate and collaborate so that its research outcomes are reflected in legislative activities of the National Assembly, incorporated into government policies, and supported by public consensus.
