A study for Deriving Environmental Variables Affecting the Future and Related Scenarios

The study results suggest that if the current systems and policies are maintained, it will lead to a dark future in most scenarios.

·Technological advances seem to bring both opportunities and threats to humans, but nature, which is an external factor affecting human society, is predicted to face a dark future in most scenarios.

· The study results also suggest a dismal outlook for the future of human-human and human-nature interaction and as well as for the fields of science and technology, economy, and social systems.

· Politics, which is responsible for settling social conflicts and promoting social consensus, has lost its problem-solving ability and has only brought about the distrust in representative democracy.

These gloomy forecasts for the future, however, can be a turning point for changing the present, encouraging policy actors including the public, the National Assembly, the government, and research institutes to make the changes.

· The future scenarios agreed upon through discussions with many experts may represent some of many possibilities, but these dismal future projections can serve as a clarion call for policy and institutional changes.

· It is expected that the results of this study will raise various issues regarding the improvement of our society's future response capacity and provide an opportunity to increase social interest in these issues.
