National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI)’s 2nd Board Appointment Ceremony



The National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI; President: Kim Hyeon-kon) held a board appointment ceremony at the National Assembly reception room on February 24, 2021.

Hosted by Park Byeong-seok, Speaker of the National Assembly, 2nd NAFI Board of Directors newly formed participated in the appointment ceremony and meeting. A list of board members is as follows: Chairperson Park Myuong-kwang (Chairperson of Global Civic Sharing); eight executive directors including Kang Byung-soo (Professor, Department of Public Administration, Chungnam National University), Kwon Nam-hoon (Professor, Department of Economics, Konkuk University), Park Jin-hee (Professor, Dharma College, Dongguk University), Yang Jung-ho (Professor, Department of Education, Sungkyunkwan University), Cha Young-hwan (Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Sangji University), Choi Kyong-wook (Professor, School of Economics, University of Seoul), and Han Sang-ik (Professor, Department of Public Administration, Gachon University); and an auditor, Kang Gyeong-woon (partner of Jipyong LLC).

Directors were appointed by the Speaker and recommended by parliamentary and non-parliamentary groups, and the auditor was selected by a recommendation of the Board of Directors in accordance with the “Act of National Assembly Futures Institute”. The Board of Directors is the highest decision-making body which will deliberate and make a resolution on critical matters such as amendment of the Articles of Incorporation, recommendation of candidates for the NAFI President, and selection of research projects. The term of office for directors shall be four (4) years from the date of appointment.

“I hope you will suggest a direction for issues that the five-year one-term government tends to neglect, such as national integration, low birth rate and aging population, inter-Korean issues, and climate change, so that any ruling party can refer to your guidelines. It doesn’t matter if the research results come out during the next chairperson’s term. Please help the National Assembly find a right direction for national projects,” said the Speaker Park Byeong-seok to the new board members at the ceremony.

“In cooperation with other NAFI researchers, the Board of Directors will do our best to display visions to not only the National Assembly but also the Republic of Korea itself,” answered the Chairperson Park Myung-kwang.

Attendees to the ceremony included Yi Chun-seok, Secretary General; Jeon Sang-su, Deputy Secretary-General for Legislative Affairs; Cho Yong-bok, Deputy Secretary-General for Administrative Affairs; Bok Gi-wang, Chief of Staff; Choi Jong-gil, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs; and Han Min-su, Senior Secretary for Public Relations.
