National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI) Held Joint Online Seminar with Three Think Tanks
Plans for Nurturing Talent and Legislation Tasks in Preparation for 4.0 Industry
The National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI; President: Kim Hyeon-kon) held a webinar on the subject of “Plans for Nurturing Talent and Legislation Tasks in Preparation for 4.0 Industry” on December 22, together with Democratic Party Policy Institute (Director: Hong Yik-pyo), Yeouido Research Institute (Director: Ji Sang-wook) and Justice Party Policy Institute (Director: Kim Byeong-gwon).
This webinar was designed to allow NAFI, a National-Assembly funded research institute, in cooperation with think tanks of each party, to comprehensively review Korea’s human source development and to seek policy measures for various issues regardless of their political stance.
Two sessions were presented at the webinar. In the first session, Yi Gyeong-ah, Research Fellow of the Democratic Party Policy Institute, came up with two proposals under the theme of “Future Education in Preparation for 4.0 Industry”: (1) a conversion from the existing education system focusing on students belonging to the statutory eligible group only to a novel lifelong learning system in accordance with a potential megatrend of the future society, and (2) a lifelong learning society where people can cultivate competency and knowledge in their whole lives. Yi Heon-seok, a member of the Energy Justice Actions, gave a lecture about how to transform jobs and nurture new talent at this point when the biggest issues are the climate change and carbon neutrality.
In the second session, Yi Yin-bae, Research Fellow of the Yeouido Research Institute, analyzed on-site high-tech applications such as drones and self-driving cars and proposed how to foster industrial talents under the theme of “Future Education in Preparation for 4.0 Industry”, followed by the presentation made by Yeo Yeong-jun, NAFI’s Associate Research Fellow, which displayed the importance of creative talent and learning at this moment of challenge and conversion on the subject of “Role of Learning for Paradigm Shift in Innovative Growth and Institutional Innovation”.
Declaring this webinar as a meaningful event for bipartisan contemplation on the agenda that must be addressed, NAFI President Kim Hyeon-kon and the Directors of policy institutes requested the National Assembly to actively engage in the legislative process to cover solutions proposed by think tanks of the ruling and opposition parties.
NAFI had also conducted joint research with the think tanks of five parties in the 20th National Assembly for the first time in constitutional history. The joint webinar was broadcast live and can be viewed again from the NAFI YouTube channel.
