Launched the Board of Directors of “National Assembly Futures Institute”,
a valuable institute for national future research
Board of Directors of National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI), which is the superb decision making body of NAFI, will be officially launched on March 21 (Wed.) with awarding a letter of appointment by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jung Se Kyun and the founding board of directors.
The NAFI is a research institute belonging to the National Assembly that predicts and analyzes changes in the future environment and derivers mid- to long-term national development strategies. As the「National Assembly Futures Institute Act」was resolved at the National Assembly in November last year, the Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of the NAFI (Chairman Cho Dong-Sung, the president of Incheon National University) accelerates to establish the institute aiming to open it at the end of April.
The Board of Directors of NAFI is the superb decision making body of the NAFI that deliberates and decides on important matters such as amendment of the articles of association in accordance with Article 11 of the 「National Assembly Future Research Institute Act」, recommendation of candidates for the president, and selection of research projects etc. It consists of a total 9 people, including 1 person appointed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, 7 people recommended by each parliamentary group in the proportion of seats held (3 people from the Democratic Party, 3 people from the Liberty Korea Party, and 1 person from the Barunmirae Party) and 1 person recommended by the non- parliamentary group.
Right after the appointment ceremony, the Board of Directors of NAFI held the first meeting of the board of directors to elect Kim Sun-Wook, former president of Ewha Women’s University, as its chairman, and discuss future works such as process of recruiting and recommending candidates for the president of the NAFI and the procedure for audit request etc.
At the commissioning ceremony, Speaker of the National Assembly, Jung said, “The NAFI started from a reflection that we did not show sufficient concern for the country from a long-term perspective as it faced the immediate reality.
During the ceremony, Speaker Jung said, “The idea of establishing the NAFI emerged from a self-reflection that the National Assembly had fallen short in terms of considering the country’s future over the long term perspective”. Speaker Jung also added , “I expect that the board of directors will help the institute fully perform a role appropriate to the purpose for which it was established.”
The appointment ceremony, held at the National Assembly’s reception house, was attended by Secretary-General of the National Assembly, Kim Sung-Gon, Chief Secretary to the Speaker, Hwang Yeol-Heon, Deputy Secretary-General for Legislative Affairs, Jin Jeong-Gu, Deputy Secretary-General for Administrative Affarirs, Lee In-Yong, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs , Lee Jae-Kyung, Chief Policy Officer, Jae-kyung Lee, Senior Secretary to the President for Policy Jeong Seong-Pyo, Spokesman Kim Young-Soo, and Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination Jang Dae-Seop etc. <End>
