Gearing up in establishing the “National Assembly Futures Institute”,
a valuable institute for national future research
- Composing Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of National Assembly Futures Institute -
The “Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of National Assembly Futures Institute (NAFI)”, which promotes the establishment of the NAFI, will officially go into work on January 12 (Fri) with awarding a letter of appointment by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jung Se Kyun and its first meeting.
The NAFI is a research institute belonging to the National Assembly that predicts and analyzes changes in the future environment and derivers mid- to long-term national development strategies. As the「National Assembly Futures Institute Act」was resolved at a plenary session of the National Assembly in November last year, it seeks to establish the institute aiming to open in the first half of this year.
The Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of the NAFI is chaired by Cho Dong-Sung, the president of Incheon National University, and consists of five members including Byun Mi-Ri (Director of Global Future Research Center at The Seoul Institute), Choi Jun-ho (Deputy Head of Dept. of Industry, Joongang Ilbo), Lee In-Young (Deputy Secretary-General of the National Assembly), and Lee Nae-Young (Chief of the National Assembly Research Service) etc. The Preparatory Committee on the Establishment will prepare the permission for establishment of the NAFI including preparation of the articles of association, and hand over the business to the president along with the registration of incorporation.
At the appointment ceremony, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jung said, “The NAFI will serve as a lighthouse suggesting the direction that Korea should move forward including international strategies, new growth engines, sustainable development, and improvement of quality of life etc.” He also added that “ Great experts from various fields have been appointed, and they are asked to dedicate themselves to helping the NAFI take the right direction and play a role.”
Right after the appointment ceremony, the Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of NAFI held its first meeting to elect the chairman and exchanged opinions on the direction and schedule of future activities etc.
The appointment ceremony, held at the National Assembly’s reception house, was attended by Secretary-General of the National Assembly, Kim Gyo-Heung, Deputy Secretary-General for Legislative Affairs, Jin Jeong-Gu, Chief Secretary to the Speaker, Hwang Yeol-Heon, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs , Lee Jae-Kyung, Chief Policy Officer, Jae-kyung Lee, Senior Secretary to the President for Policy Jeong Seong-Pyo, Spokesman Kim Young-Soo, and Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination Jang Dae-Seop etc. <End>
