Pursuing joint research· cooperation for conducting ‘Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life’

- NAFI entered into business cooperation agreement with SRI -

The National Assembly Futures Institute (President, Park Jin) entered into a business cooperation agreement with the Statistics Research Institute (Director Jeon Young-Il) at the National Assembly Building on August 29, 2019 (Thur.). This agreement aims to ensure that both organizations agree on the necessity of conducting the “Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life” periodically and to promote necessary research and cooperation in the future.

Subjective wellbeing is currently measured at the level of producing a small number of indicator statistics around the country. Due to this, there are limitations to systematically measuring the overall happiness level of the people, identifying the factors that affect happiness and reflecting them into related policies in a way.

In the future, happiness inequality is likely to go up due to polarization caused by radical changes in science and technology, changes in population structure and family structure etc.  Therefore, researches on trends of happiness inequality and various factors affecting the inequality are required. In response, the National Assembly Future Research Institute, an organization specializing in national future research, cooperates with the Statistics Research Institute, a central government organization for statistics, to promote researches for the development of  “Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life” using the expertise of both organizations.

The two organizations have established 「 mid- to long-term plans for measuring the happiness of Koreans 」outlining ▲ development of a survey tool for ‘Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life’ ▲ designing implementation plan for nationwide survey , ‘Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life’  ▲ holding a 'Conference on the Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life’  using the results. Established a plan with main contents, and entered into a business cooperation agreement to implement them.

If the ‘Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life’  is conducted annually in the future, it is expected to ▲be used by the National Assembly and the government to establish • implement policies to improve the quality of the people’s life and  ▲ be used as a basic data for the general public and researchers in related fields to understand and analyze the happiness of Koreans based on information related to the overall level of happiness and factors affecting it.

The president of the NAFI Park Jin said, "The ‘Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life’ will help the National Assembly and the government to improve the quality of the people’s life with the establishment • implementation of policies based on objective grounds. He also added, “We will continue to make efforts to become an institution that produces statistics on happiness of Koreans with high reliability and validity while maintaining a close cooperation system with the Statistics Research Institute.”

The Director of Statistics Research Institute Jeon Young-Il said, “Happiness is the ultimate goal of national operation. I expect that cooperation with the NAFI will provide an opportunity to expand the scope of national statistics. He also added, “We plan to contribute to the stabilization of the “Survey on Koreans’ Happiness and Quality of Life” by using the expertise of the Statistics Research Institute.”  <End>
